Torrance City Council candidate Aurelio Mattucci has always been a hands on individual willing to take action. One of Mattucci’s campaign concerns is the “curb appeal” of Torrance and working to preserve and promote the beauty of our South Bay city. According to a recent statement on his campaign website, Mattucci is even ready to repave neglected streets with his own two hands.

“If elected, I will push for a plan that would take care of the most effected areas first. The areas that have been abandoned by City Hall will get their streets repaved if I have to go out and shovel tar myself.” wrote Mattucci. Chances are, he means it.

For the past three years, Aurelio has spearheaded The Mattucci Project, an all volunteer organization that cleans up yards and sidewalks for homes or businesses that are unable to do so. The Mattucci Project volunteers clear away brush and debris, trim overgrowth, pull weeds and cart away trash. With a focus on locations where the owner is financially or physically incapable of managing a property’s maintenance alone, the Mattucci Project will provide their invaluable time and energy to anyone in need.  

Mattucci is taking City Hall to task on this issue of caring for our streets, calling for an end to the “5 year plan” excuse. “No more empty promises,” says Mattucci, “…stop telling us, ‘There's No Money’. The money is there if we use our money on PRIORITIES. If you want things to change, the voters need to cut the chains that connect us to current and past administrations and get off to a fresh start.” Mattucci pledges to be a “hands on candidate that will get things done.” Given that he already has a proven track record of not being afraid to do the actual dirty work himself, voters can believe that when Mattucci says he will get something done, it gets done.

Two Weeks Until Election Day! Do You Know Where to Go?

Election day is right around the corner! California Statewide Direct Primary & Municipal General Election is Tuesday, June 3rd.

Make sure you know where to vote for Torrance City Council candidate Aurelio Mattucci.

The Los Angeles County Registrar’s office has made it easy to find your polling place and see a sample ballot at any time before the June 3rd election.

The June 3rd election covers several key races for the City of Torrance and primaries for the State of California. This is a crucial election day since the ballots are consolidated to include primary nomination voting for the state’s highest offices and general election final selections for local city offices. This means there is another general election day November 4th to choose between the top two candidates for statewide offices. Local city contests, however, will be decided on June 3rd. In other words, June 3rd is your only chance to vote for Aurelio Mattucci for Torrance City Council! Don’t miss the opportunity to make a choice that supports the future of Torrance business and families.

In 2010, California voters decided on a new “Top Two” primary system. This new system puts all candidates on every ballot regardless of political party affiliation. Any voter can vote for any candidate from any party. The candidates receiving the two highest number of votes in each race will move on to the November General Election. This can mean that there may even be two candidates from the same party vying for the same office. The “Top Two” system puts more power in the hands of voters, because the nominations are truly decided by the voters and not the parties. In a state like California where there are several prominent political parties, this new system allows for a wider freedom to choose the candidate that best represents your concerns.

Many concerned Torrance voters are probably asking, “Who should I vote for in the June 3rd Torrance election?” “What are the most important qualities in an outstanding City Councilperson?” Given recent abuses of power in nearby cities like Bell, one major concern when electing any city official is, “Do they have the city’s best interests at heart?” “How will my city councilperson handle the financial responsibility?”

For one Torrance City Council candidate, responsible budgeting practices is a huge priority.  Aurelio Mattucci believes in a conservative approach to spending that prioritizes necessity over popularity. With an eye on the future impact of today’s budgeting decisions, Mattucci will “make sure the tax payers are also in the decision process and not unilaterally make decisions that benefit a few and burden all.” 

Responsible budgeting also falls in line with Mattucci’s additional concerns of public safety, education and maintaining the beauty of Torrance. In less than three weeks the voters of Torrance will choose their future representatives. If you truly want positive changes to happen, then you need to cut the chains that connect us to current and past administrations. Same Blood line, ...same results. You may or may not believe Torrance will go bankrupt in the near future. All I can base my theory on is the budget itself. The so called solution will never work because we are not hiring enough new people and the "new" contributions are not enough to fill the $400 million dollar void. The fact that our city has to dip into reserve accounts to pay bills is a fact that leads me to believe we have an issue. The biggest issue facing us right now is the unfunded pension liabilities. I have heard some people say I don't care about the city workers. That couldn't farther than the truth. The fact I want to stop the bleeding is a good example of an attempt to save the jobs. My plan is to start from the highest paid positions and work our way down. I don't want to take away pensions or push our work force out of the city. I want to see why we have overtime pay that sometimes exceeds the base salary of an employee. I want to see what added benefits we are offering that employees could do without. I'd also like to see a transparent itemized list of "Added Benefits" offered to some of our highest paid employees in the State. I understand we need to offer careers and not just jobs, but the truth is we can't afford to stay on track with what is there now. I can't except the fact that our streets and sidewalks have been neglected for decades and we (the citizens of Torrance) have to wait around for the economy to pick up. Last time I checked we have not been in a 50 year recession. Let's hold our politicians accountable for their promises and let's make sure our tax dollars are truly at work for the general well being of the public and not just a few individuals. I love my city, many of my friends work in city hall. I want to help retain these jobs, offer careers and still maintain our city as it should be. We can find the balance only if we work together as a team. The public must vote, and speak up. After all, the city belongs to you.

Torrance City Council candidate Aurelio Mattucci will be appearing at a public “Meet & Greet” event on Wednesday, May 14 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at The Remedy Pharm on Hawthorne Blvd.  Mattucci wants to meet you and hear your concerns for the future of Torrance.

Mattucci is committed to public safety, keeping Torrance a safe and healthy home for all residents and families. He will work for responsible budget practices with sufficient and necessary funds being provided for education.
